About Special Olympics Iowa

Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA) is a nonprofit organization that has been serving Iowans with intellectual disabilities since 1968. SOIA serves athletes in each of Iowa's 99 counties and provides training and competitions in 23 Olympic-type sports. Nearly 11,000 athletes and Unified Sports Partners participate in SOIA events and competitions annually. SOIA makes a positive difference in the lives of athletes, their families and communities through the help of more than 15,000 individuals and 2,000 certified coaches who volunteer to participate in the programs.

What would Special Olympics Iowa do with $25,000?

The grant would help Special Olympics Iowa reach the more than 45,000 Iowans with intellectual disabilities not currently served by SOIA. Serving more Iowans requires more funding for equipment, facilities, food, transportation, awards and volunteer recognition. The initial grant of $1,000 will used to support the start-up of flag football in the fall.
